A woman was cut on the arm during a robbery at the J&G Food Mary in Newport News, officials said.
The incident occurred around 11:55 p.m. at the J&G Food Mary located in the 1500 block of 27th Street. A woman clerk was taking out the trash when an unknown black man grabbed her. She was cut on the right arm during the struggle, according to Newport News Police spokesman MPO Brandon Maynard.
The man took the woman back into the J&G Food Mary and demanded money. He took an undisclosed amount of money as well as cigarettes and ran from the store. The woman was treated for the cut, Maynard said.
According to police, the man was wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. The investigation remains ongoing.
