Nancy Pelosi thanks George Floyd for ‘sacrificing’ his life for justice after Derek Chauvin is found guilty

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) issued a bizarre emotional appeal where she thanked George Floyd for “sacrificing” his life for the cause of justice after the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial was announced.

Floyd, a black man, died in police custody after former Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck during his arrest. A medical report later found that Floyd had traces of methamphetamine in his system, and that he had ingested fentanyl prior to the interaction with police.

Pelosi looked to the skies and thanked Floyd after the guilty verdict from a jury on Tuesday.

“So again, thank you George Floyd, for sacrificing your life for justice,” said Pelosi.

“For being there to call out to your mom, how heartbreaking was that? To call out to your mom, ‘I can’t breathe,'” she continued. “But because of you, and because of thousands, millions of people around the world, who came out for justice, your name will always be synonymous with justice.”

Pelosi also thanked Jesus and God in the speech while noting that the family of Floyd were faithful believers.

“His name synonymous with justice, and dignity, and grace, and prayerfulness,” said Pelosi of Floyd, “and prayerfulness.”

Pelosi received criticism from both the right and the left over the odd comments.

A jury found Chauvin guilty on three charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. Activists framed the case as an example of a racist law enforcement system taking the life of a black man.

Chauvin awaits sentencing from Judge Peter A. Cahill, and could face up to 40 years, 25 years, and 10 years in prison for the various charges. The defense team is expected to appeal the guilty verdict on the basis that the jury was influenced by comments from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and others.
